Hi everyone, I’m Jenny from WUMA Drive.
Gear lubrication is crucial for ensuring the reliable operation of reducer transmission systems. It reduces friction and wear, controls temperature rise, minimizes vibration and noise, extends service life, and directly determines the operating efficiency and maintenance costs of the equipment.
Today, let’s look at three common gear lubrication methods:

1.Grease lubrication
The semi-solid grease adheres to the gear surface, forming a durable oil film that reduces friction and wear. It is suitable for low-speed, lever-type gears or in harsh environments where maintenance is difficult.
Its advantages include strong sealing, long maintenance intervals, and good impact resistance, protecting gears from impact load damage.
However, at high speeds, heat dissipation differences can cause the grease to deteriorate; overfilling increases stirring resistance; and replacement becomes difficult after aging.
2.Oil Splash Lubrication
The lubricating gear part enters the oil sump. During rotation, the oil is flung onto the gear surface to form a lubricating film. Simultaneously, the oil flow
carries away heat and wear particles. Suitable for applications requiring a balance between lubrication and cooling.
Advantages include good cooling effect, strong self-cleaning ability, and low cost.
However, strict control of the oil level is necessary; excessive oil level increases losses, while insufficient oil level leads to inadequate lubrication. High sealing requirements are necessary to prevent wear. Suitable for high-speed gears, but prone to oil slippage leading to lubrication issues.
3.Oil Spray Lubrication
Special nozzles spray oil as a mist or a stream onto the gear contact area, forming a protective oil film.Best for high-speed open gears or when extra lubrication is needed at specific points.
Its advantages lie in its precise application, rapid heat dissipation, and adaptability to exposed environments with open gears.
However, oil contamination can easily pollute surrounding equipment, requiring a high-pressure pump for power, resulting in higher energy consumption. Furthermore, the nozzles are prone to clogging, necessitating regular maintenance.
Do you know of any other methods for lubricating gears?
